We are learning a story called The Four Dragons!
Our friend Myrah suggested we should make our very own dragons!


So, we did some research to find out how to make an easy dragon.  Some of us used our imaginations!



First we sketched some dragons.  Then we wrote a list of things we needed to create our dragons.



Then we started to create them!!

Non-Fiction Storytelling

We have kicked off Term 3 with a non-fiction text for our Storytelling...about Water. Although the elements of how we learn the a non-fiction text are the same as how we would learn a fiction story, the way in which we do it is quite different. Last week we had a lot of fun as we started to learn the words and gestures of our new text.  Some of the gestures we are using are taken from New Zealand sign language. First, we listened to the story and noticed that there were actions that were repeated when the same word was repeated. Mr Yuki then helped us to recreate the text into a map which incorporated both words and pictures to represent the words. We spent some time recording ourselves talking the map... Next we watched how to step the map and then went away to practise in groups... First week of 2019 in Koru 2

Welcome back to 2019!     What a fantastic first week we have had in Koru 2! So far we have... - completed an environment scavenger hunt - played 'Find someone who...' - played some team games both inside and outside of the classroom - spent time figuring out what kind of an environment we want Koru 2 to be - talked about classroom jobs, designed our own images for them and filled out job applications! - been introduced to 5 licences that we will have the opportunity to earn throughout the year - begun designing potential images that we are wanting to create to represent each of the licences ...As well as starting to learn some new routines.  Wow, we've been busy!  One of the most important things that we did was think about our class treaty.  We brainstormed our ideas in small groups around what we thought we wanted our class to 'look like, sound like and feel like'. Celebration of Learning

Our Koru 2 tamariki all worked together and did a massive tidy up in preparation for our celebration of learning evening.  We spent some time on Tuesday playing parents and students practicing giving a classroom tour. Our community evening was a big success.  We had several family and whānau stop in to visit our space.  We were so impressed with many of our Koru 2 tamariki as they did such a wonderful job sharing their learning with them.    The Kapa haka and Pasifika performances were a wonderful way to end the day.  Thank you to everyone who came and made this wonderful event happen.
